What is fire-resistant glass?

Fire-resistant glass —
transparent, yet
resistant to fire.

Fire-resistant glass stops the spread of fire, smoke and radiant heat for a defined period of time — while maintaining the visual openness of a glass structure. It is a legally required component in escape routes, fire compartments and public buildings.

GIGAglas supplies fire-resistant glass in two performance categories: EW (resistance to fire and smoke, limited radiation reduction) and EI (full thermal insulation — no heat radiation through the glass). Classes of 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes available.

EN 1634-1 CE-certified EW 30/60/90/120 EI 30/60/90/120
Performance classes
EW 30–120 resistance to fire + smoke + limited radiation
EI 30–120 full thermal insulation — no heat radiation

DoP + CE declaration of performance & CE marking available
Our added value

Why GIGAglas
for fire-resistant glass?

Fire-resistant glass demands absolute reliability in classification and documentation. We supply certified products with test reports, DoP and CE marking — so you and your client are fully covered.

EW and EI — all classes

From EW 30 (minimum requirement for escape routes) to EI 120 (maximum insulation for fire-resistant partition walls) — we supply every class your project requires.

Transparency maintains sightlines

Fire-resistant glass lets daylight and sightlines through in escape routes — improving orientation and reducing panic during evacuation, while fire compartmentation is maintained.

Fire-resistant frames

Fire-resistant glass must be combined with certified fire-resistant frames. We coordinate system deliveries and provide all technical documentation for the complete system.

Custom work for every project

Fire-resistant glass to order — exactly to the dimensions of your doors, windows, partition walls or facade. We also supply in combination with laminated glass for combined fire and burglar resistance.

Technical advice included

Our specialists advise you on the correct class for your project — per NEN 6068 (compartmentation NL), EN 13501-2 and local fire safety requirements across Europe.

Applications

Where is fire-resistant
glass legally
required?

Fire-resistant glass is not optional — it is legally required in a large number of building types and situations. GIGAglas supplies for all relevant applications.

Escape routes & emergency exits
Fire-resistant glazing per BENG/building regulations for stairwell and corridor walls in tall utility buildings, care facilities and schools. EW 30 minimum requirement, EI 60 for taller buildings.
Fire-resistant partition walls
Transparent compartmentation for offices, hotels, shopping centres and public buildings. EI 60/90 for fire- and smoke-tight separation between functions.
Care buildings & hospitals
Strict fire safety requirements for care functions (healthcare class 5). Transparent glazing that keeps nursing routes visible and guarantees fire compartmentation.
Station buildings & transport
Fire-resistant glazing for platform canopies, station buildings and airport terminals. High public footfall requires the longest fire resistance classes (EI 90/120).
Industrial buildings
Production spaces, storage and server rooms require fire-resistant compartmentation with visibility. EI glass for partition walls with maximum smoke tightness.
Fire-resistant doors & windows
Fire-resistant glass doors and windows as part of certified systems per EN 14351. We supply the glass and coordinate with your door and window manufacturer.
