What is curved glass?

Curved glass —
flat glass transformed into
any curvilinear form.

Curved glass — also known as hot bent or formed glass — is produced by heating flat glass to a high temperature until it becomes plastic and then allowing it to sag over a mould. The glass takes the shape of the mould, is cooled and permanently retains its curved form. This process makes virtually any radius possible.

GIGAglas supplies single curved glass (arc-shaped, one direction) and double curved glass (compound curve, two directions — such as a spherical surface). Combinable with tempering (curved ESG), laminating (curved VSG), screen printing and low-iron for optimal optical quality.

Single curved Double curved Curved + laminated (VSG) Custom radius to drawing
Product combinations
Curved ESG curved tempered — maximum strength in curved form
Curved VSG curved laminated — safety retention on breakage
Compound curve double curved — spherical, domes, special forms
Extra clear low-iron curved glass — maximum transparency and colour purity
Our added value

Why GIGAglas
for curved glass?

Curved glass requires precision to 0.1 mm — and suppliers with deep manufacturing expertise. GIGAglas works with European specialist producers who master this precision product.

Single curved — any radius

Cylindrical arch forms in any desired radius — from sweeping curves on station canopies to tight arches for shop interiors and columns. We produce to your dimensional drawing.

Curved + laminated (VSG)

Curved glass combined with PVB or SGP interlayer — for safety retention on breakage. Essential for overhead applications such as glass roofs, balcony roofs and canopies.

Optical quality guaranteed

Hot bent glass can show optical distortions. We select manufacturers with high optical quality standards — and advise on low-iron (extra clear) for minimal colour distortion.

Custom production to drawing

Every panel is produced to your CAD drawing or BIM model. We translate your architectural design into a production file — including tolerance check and coordination with your window system.

Logistics for fragile transport

Curved glass requires special packaging, transport frames and loading/unloading methods. GIGAglas coordinates the complete logistics — from the production location to your building site in Europe.

Applications

Where does
curved glass
make the difference?

Curved glass transforms buildings from functional structures into architectural statements. It offers possibilities that are simply not achievable with flat glass.

Curvilinear facades
Organic facade surfaces for office buildings, hotels and iconic urban developments. Curved facade panels fit seamlessly onto a steel or aluminium curved support structure.
Station canopies
Large curved glass structures for train and metro stations — such as the Arnhem Central Station roof structure we supplied. Single curved laminated glass over a steel primary support structure.
Domes & spherical segments
Double curved glass panels for glass domes, observation spaces and spectacular canopies. Compound curves in virtually any 3D geometry to order.
Glass corners & columns
Curved glass for sharp corner solutions without a frame post — fully glazed corners for maximum transparency and seamless facade transitions. Clean, modern, timeless.
Retail interiors & displays
Curved display glass for luxury retail and museum presentations. Single curved glass for cylindrical display cases, round displays and curved counters.
Marine & transport
Curved glass for yachts, cruise ships and train/bus curtain walls. High demands on optical quality, impact resistance and weather resistance — we deliver to spec.

Glass thicknesses3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 8 / 10 / 12 mm — thicker combinations as VSG
Max. formatProduction dependent — approx. 6000 × 2500 mm single curved
Curved + tempered (ESG)Bend first, then temper — EN 12150 standard applies
Curved + laminated (VSG)PVB / SGP interlayer — EN 14449 standard — safety retention on breakage
Glass typesFloat, extra-clear (low-iron), tinted, reflective
Optical qualityClass 1 or 2 per EN 572 — prior sample approval recommended
