Hot bent glass in single and double curved forms — combined with tempering and laminating. For curvilinear facades, canopies, station buildings and architectural interior design. Custom radius, via our partner network of manufacturers, delivery across Europe.
Curved glass — also known as hot bent or formed glass — is produced by heating flat glass to a high temperature until it becomes plastic and then allowing it to sag over a mould. The glass takes the shape of the mould, is cooled and permanently retains its curved form. This process makes virtually any radius possible.
GIGAglas supplies single curved glass (arc-shaped, one direction) and double curved glass (compound curve, two directions — such as a spherical surface). Combinable with tempering (curved ESG), laminating (curved VSG), screen printing and low-iron for optimal optical quality.
Curved glass requires precision to 0.1 mm — and suppliers with deep manufacturing expertise. GIGAglas works with European specialist producers who master this precision product.
Cylindrical arch forms in any desired radius — from sweeping curves on station canopies to tight arches for shop interiors and columns. We produce to your dimensional drawing.
Compound curves for domes, spherical segments, organic architecture and special design forms. Double curved glass makes completely free 3D forms in glass possible — a technical feat.
Curved glass combined with PVB or SGP interlayer — for safety retention on breakage. Essential for overhead applications such as glass roofs, balcony roofs and canopies.
Hot bent glass can show optical distortions. We select manufacturers with high optical quality standards — and advise on low-iron (extra clear) for minimal colour distortion.
Every panel is produced to your CAD drawing or BIM model. We translate your architectural design into a production file — including tolerance check and coordination with your window system.
Curved glass requires special packaging, transport frames and loading/unloading methods. GIGAglas coordinates the complete logistics — from the production location to your building site in Europe.
Curved glass transforms buildings from functional structures into architectural statements. It offers possibilities that are simply not achievable with flat glass.
| Parameter | Value / Description |
|---|---|
| Bending process | Hot bending — glass heated to approx. 600 °C, formed over mould |
| Bending types | Single curved (cylindrical) / double curved (compound / spherical) |
| Minimum radius | Depends on glass thickness — typically min. 300–500 mm for 6 mm glass |
| Glass thicknesses | 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 8 / 10 / 12 mm — thicker combinations as VSG |
| Max. format | Production dependent — approx. 6000 × 2500 mm single curved |
| Curved + tempered (ESG) | Bend first, then temper — EN 12150 standard applies |
| Curved + laminated (VSG) | PVB / SGP interlayer — EN 14449 standard — safety retention on breakage |
| Glass types | Float, extra-clear (low-iron), tinted, reflective |
| Optical quality | Class 1 or 2 per EN 572 — prior sample approval recommended |
| Tolerances | Guideline tolerances 0.5–1.5 mm on radius — specify your window system |
| Combinations | Curved + screen printed, + coating, + extra clear — on request |
